Irene MacDonald MSc
BACP Accred Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me #01

Professional background

I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy BACP as an Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and abide by their Code of Ethics. I am also registered with the United Kingdom Register of Counsellor/Psychotherapists. I have completed specialist training for trauma (EMDR, Brainspotting, Comprehensive Resource Model, Dissociative Disorders) and hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Stirling University.

I have retired from Primary Care in the NHS, and was attached to several GP Practices in the Lanarkshire area; and from an FE College on the outskirts of Glasgow, providing a counselling service to students and young people.
I have also provided a professional Counselling/Psychotherapy service to Employee Assistance Programmes (Ministry of Defence, Government Departments, Police, Police Firearms Officers Association, Right Core Care, EAR/WPO) in addition to 1:1 therapy for private customers.
I previously I worked with EVA (counselling women with abuse related issues) and I spent time with Open Secret in Falkirk, working with adults recovering from childhood sexual abuse.

My background in Nursing and Midwifery hopefully gives me a wide understanding of many issues (pregnancy, childbirth, infertility, and the traumas that illness and disability bring). Latterly, I worked in a hospice caring for both terminally ill patients and their families, and people with chronic illnesses.

In my own life I value the great outdoors, nature, exploring Scotland, taking photographs, mostly compatible with having three border collie girls. In the winter time I love nothing more than a cosy log fire, and the rest of the year I head off in my camper van for an adventure.
